New Del Dayo Classrooms Create 21st Century Learning Environment

Landmark Construction built classrooms and supported a staff room revamp
San Juan Unified School District students were greeted with modern, “next-generation” classrooms at both Del Dayo Elementary School and Mariemont Elemen004tary School when they came back to school.

The new “classrooms are eco-friendly, provide great natural lighting along with LED lamps and include multiple writing walls, flexible furniture and 70″ flat-screen televisions,” according to the SJUSD Construction blog.

The lights are on a photo cell so the shades go up when the lighting inside is dim to let in more natural light and then the lights inside the class room naturally balance the lighting in the room. Not only does this provide the best light for studying, it saves energy too. But for the students, the automated feature seems to be most intriguing.

The modular classroom building components were supplied by Project Frog to both the SJUSD Del Dayo and Mariemount campuses in the summer of 2016. Landmark Construction took the “Frog buildings from slab to water-tight in a blazing fast four weeks,” at both campuses according to the Project Frog blog post. The one-story buildings are 4000 square feet and in006-1clude three classrooms.

Ellen Kelton, Preconstruction Manager, Landmark Construction, explained that the company also volunteered its expertise to the Del Dayo Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to update the new staff room. “Landmark Construction donated all the labor to install the cabinets and countertops,” said Kelton.

The Landmark Construction team took on this voluntary project at the busiest time of year so it would be ready for returning staff.  The PTO and parent volunteers transformed the staff room over the summer with fresh paint, new cabinetry, built-in bar counter and new appliances.

We couldn’t have done it without you!”

A teacher commented: “We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our new and improved staff room!!! We are the luckiest teachers around with the most supportive PTO anywhere!”

Another person remarked: “Del Dayo PTO is the best! Their generosity continues to reach above and beyond. Thanks also to Landmark Construction. Truly good people.”
