Landmark Construction was recognized by Washington Elementary Principal, Dr. Gema Godina-Martinez during a special presentation at the Sacramento City Council meeting on Tuesday August 16, 2016.

Council member Steve Hansen indicated that Washington Elementary had been closed during the recession and through a partnership between the city and school district is reopening. Jay Hansen, 1st Vice President, Board of Education Member, Area 1, Sacramento City Unified School District commented that one million dollars in renovations had been completed. Additionally, he explained that the new school will have a STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math – academic program. José Banda, Superintendent, Sacramento City Unified School District, further explained that the repurposing and reopening with a focus on STEAM will make Washington Elementary a destination school in the urban core.
Dr. Gema Godina-Martinez, Principal, Washington Elementary School, recognized the partners involved in the school renovation. “I think it is going to be a gem for our neighborhood, for midtown and for our kids ultimately. … Landmark Construction – they’ve done a phenomenal job of getting this project done so quickly,” said Godina-Martinez. “Our school is going to look incredible. As a parent, as an educator, and as a member of our community, I can’t wait for the kids to walk in.”
