Total Campus Modernization & New Construction
Landmark has transformed the John Barrett Middle School campus for San Juan Unified, delivered via Lease-Leaseback. The transformation included a brand new science building complete with 21st Century science lab classrooms. Barrett also received a brand new multipurpose room/gymnasium with locker rooms, a stage, drama classroom and band/choir classroom.
This project included modernization of all existing classroom wings and removal of portables and outdated classrooms to make room for a beautiful new quad in the heart of the campus. The repurposing of the administrative building has given Barrett a new welcoming gateway to the campus, which is further enhanced by security fencing allowing for a single point of entry. The current multipurpose room will become a modernized food court.
Reconfiguration of the existing parking lot and construction of additional parking allows for better circulation during pick up and drop off times. This refreshed campus also included a new courtyard, play hardscape, parking lots and driveways.
The scope of this project was extensive, and the District originally had the schedule to include over two years of intrusive construction. Landmark’s innovative and detailed phasing plan included two accelerated summers which allowed for construction to progress during the school year with significantly less disruption while also reducing the overall duration of the project. This saved hundreds of thousands in general conditions. Early procurement also played a key role in our delivery of extensive modernization scope during both summers.
