C. K. McClatchy High School New Track and Field Withstands the Weather

“Lake McClatchy” has long been a topic for students at Sacramento City USD’s C.K. McClatchy during rainy weather in Sacramento. The campus’ football field and track have not been updated since the 1960s and as a result, the field and track needed a complete overhaul.

Community members and parents worked with the District to gain approval for this exciting $4.3m project.  It was funded by a combination of grant funds and District funds.

Landmark Construction, together with Rainforth Grau Architects, began construction of the new field in June of 2017. The new artificial turf and synthetic track were completed on November 1st and allowed McClatchy boys and girls soccer teams to finish out their winter season.

Sacramento City Unified School District held a ribbon cutting on November 9th, a proud day for  McClatchy Lions old and young. Now just a few short months later, the track and turf are withstanding the test of rain. It’s not dry, but it appears Lake McClatchy will now be just a memory for student athletes. The reduced risks and improved conditions allowed a huge sigh of relief for McClatchy’s athletics department.
